Vegetarians/Vegans
Dietary sources of iron play a vital role in maintaining adequate levels of iron within the body. Heme iron found in meat, fish and poultry is more easily absorbed than non-heme iron found in fruits, vegetables and grains. Vegetarian and vegan diets are therefore challenged with obtaining sufficient levels of iron stores with a less potent form of dietary iron. Foods that inhibit iron absorption are also more common in these diets including foods rich in oxalates, polyphenols and phytates.
Vegetarians and vegans can help improve their dietary intake of iron by specifically looking for foods that offer both the highest level of iron available and foods that help iron absorption within the body. Oral iron supplements like Polyride Fe and Polyride Fe Ultra polysaccharide iron can also assist in obtaining the optimal levels of iron required. As a polysaccharide iron with 150 mg of elemental iron they provide the highest dose per capsule of elemental iron available in an iron supplement. Polyride Ultra also provides vitamin C to further improve iron absorption.
