Symptoms of Iron Deficiency

There are often little to no symptoms of iron deficiency or symptoms may come on slowly with no sudden change in feeling or energy level.  However, some common symptoms do include:

  • Tiredness

  • Insomnia

  • Breathlessness

  • Anxiety, Irritability, Mood Swings

  • Dizziness or Light-headedness

  • Headaches

  • Pale, yellow skin

  • Cold hands and feet

  • Brittle nails or hair loss

  • Unusual food cravings

Talk to your health care provider if you notice any of these symptoms or think you might be iron deficient.  Your physician will take a blood test to diagnose if you have anemia and determine what might be causing the anemia to occur.
